Bedbug infestations at Las Vegas hotels Treasure Island and Luxor lead to lawsuits from guests citing injuries and emotional distress in 2024.
Las Vegas, the city of glitz and glamour, has hit a rather itchy snag. Two iconic resorts on the Strip, Treasure Island and Luxor Hotel, are facing lawsuits from guests who claim they were attacked by bedbugs during their stays in the summer of 2024. These aren’t just minor annoyances—travelers are alleging serious physical injuries and emotional distress, turning what should have been a jackpot vacation into a nightmare.
At Treasure Island, guest Teresa Bruce reported waking up with bites all over her body during her June 21 stay. Thinking a room switch would solve the problem, she was dismayed to find even more bites in her new accommodations. The hotel’s risk management team later confirmed bedbugs in both rooms, according to the complaint. Bruce’s lawsuit claims she was not only physically harmed but deeply offended by the ordeal.
Over at the Luxor, the situation was equally grim. On June 8, Stephen and Courtney Gully endured bites that swelled and itched intensely. Courtney’s reaction was so severe that her throat felt like it was closing, requiring an emergency hospital visit. The couple had to ditch nearly all their belongings due to the infestation’s severity. A month later, on July 16, another guest, Brianna McKenzie, described her experience as a bedbug massacre, alleging significant injuries and emotional trauma.
Representing the plaintiffs, Attorney Brian Virag of My Bed Bug Lawyer emphasized the gravity of these incidents. He pointed out that beyond the physical scars and itchiness, the emotional toll on his clients has been profound. Virag is pushing for resorts to step up their game—better training for housekeepers, stricter pest control protocols, and thorough room checks to ensure no creepy crawlies are left behind for the next guest. His advice to travelers? Check yourself before you wreck yourself—inspect your room and body for any signs of bites before settling in.
As these lawsuits unfold, the hotels have yet to respond officially, but the message is clear: Vegas might always roll the dice, but guests shouldn’t have to gamble with their health and safety. Stay tuned as this itchy situation develops.
