Louisiana’s Blake Miguez challenges Sen. Bill Cassidy in 2026 U.S. Senate race, accusing him of betraying Trump and Louisiana values.
In a fiery campaign launch, Louisiana state Sen. Blake Miguez has thrown his hat into the 2026 U.S. Senate race, taking a bold swing at incumbent Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy. Miguez’s campaign video pulls no punches, accusing Cassidy of betraying Louisiana by voting to convict former President Donald Trump in the post-Jan. 6, 2021 impeachment trial. That Senate vote, which fell short of conviction, remains a sore point for Trump loyalists.
Miguez, unapologetically aligning himself with Trump, vowed to be an unbending advocate for the 'America First' agenda. In a Tuesday post on X, he declared, "I won’t bend. I won’t break. I’ll stand with President Trump." He framed his candidacy as a fight to preserve the American Dream, slamming Cassidy as a 'D.C. phony' who’s lost touch with Louisiana’s values.
But Cassidy’s camp isn’t sweating. Campaign press secretary Ashley Bosch fired back, confidently stating, "Senator Cassidy will win." Bosch touted Cassidy’s conservative credentials, emphasizing his work alongside Trump to secure the border and boost American energy. Cassidy, a Senate veteran since 2015 with prior stints in the U.S. House and Louisiana state Senate, remains a formidable figure.
Miguez isn’t alone in challenging Cassidy. Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming, another Trump ally, announced his Senate bid last year, signaling a crowded and contentious GOP primary. With the Bayou State’s Senate election set for 2026, this race is shaping up to be a high-stakes showdown over loyalty, legacy, and Louisiana’s future.

Miguez is swinging for the fences, but calling Cassidy a 'D.C. phony' in Louisiana is like accusing a crawfish of being too spicy—bold, but will it stick? This GOP primary is less a race and more a Trump loyalty pageant, with Fleming and Miguez duking it out for the MAGA crown. Meanwhile, Cassidy’s sipping sweet tea, betting his track record trumps the drama. Why did Miguez launch so early? Because in Louisiana politics, the early gator gets the swamp!
