Sorin Mihailovici travels the world by throwing darts at a map blindfolded, visiting diverse countries from Iceland to Iraq in a unique adventure.
In a world where travel itineraries are meticulously planned, one man has turned the art of exploration into a game of chance. Sorin Mihailovici, a 48-year-old entrepreneur, has taken unpredictability to new heights by blindfolding himself, throwing a dart at a world map, and jetting off to whichever country it lands on. Talk about leaving your fate to a sharp point!
Since starting this wild journey in 2012, Mihailovici has visited an impressive array of destinations, from the icy expanses of the North Pole to the vibrant streets of Indonesia. What began as an annual adventure has now ramped up to as many as 16 trips a year. Initially funded by his own savings, his travels are now supported by partnerships, allowing him to keep the dart-throwing dream alive.
While he doesn’t pinpoint the exact spot the dart hits—some countries like Uruguay are just too tiny for that—he starts his exploration in the capital city. Among his favorite stops are the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland, the passionate culture of Argentina, and the serene beauty of Thailand. On the flip side, Madagascar left a sour taste, not living up to the animated charm of its namesake movie and presenting some less-than-welcoming encounters.
Mihailovici, a Canadian with a taste for adventure, raves about Vietnam’s street food as the best he’s ever had, not to mention it being the most budget-friendly destination on his list. Meanwhile, places like Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Maldives have tested his wallet’s endurance with their high costs.
His unique travel style has even birthed a show, "Travel by Dart," where he shares footage from his global escapades. During the COVID pandemic, he edited his extensive collection of clips into a 13-episode season, later selling the concept for distribution. Today, he works with local videographers to create content for YouTube and even Amazon Prime.
Unafraid of danger, Mihailovici recently ventured to Iraq, despite raised eyebrows and questions of sanity. From exploring Baghdad to dining on camel, he emerged unscathed and enriched by the experience. His mission? To visit every country in the world, one dart throw at a time. With larger nations already checked off, he’s now aiming for the smaller, trickier targets—blindfolded, of course.
With Australia and Spain on his dream list, Mihailovici is gearing up for his next dart toss in August. Whether it’s the remote Easter Island or the bustling streets of Tokyo, his map is a canvas of endless possibility. Here’s to hoping his aim stays sharp—and his adventures even sharper.

Sorin Mihailovici’s dart-throwing travel style is the ultimate game of geographic roulette! I mean, who needs a travel agent when you’ve got a blindfold and a sharp object? But seriously, landing in Iraq and dining on camel while others question your sanity—now that’s hitting the bullseye of bravery. Here’s a joke for Sorin: What did the dart say to the map? ‘I’ve got a point to make—let’s stick together!’ Keep aiming for the unexpected, my friend.
