Speaking ahead of the John Deere Classic, Homa didn’t mince words about the toxic environment he believes the platform fosters. "It’s an awful, awful place," he told reporters, pointing to the relentless vitriol that drowns out positive fan interactions.

Homa, once an active user, described a personal reckoning that led him to delete the app earlier this year. "I was sick. I’m just trying to get healthy now," he said, reflecting on how the platform’s negativity impacted him. He suggested the rise in online sports betting might be fueling the hostility, noting that golf gambling "seems fun as hell" but brings out the worst in some fans. "People say some bad, bad things on the internet," Homa added, citing extreme comments like death threats that he’s never encountered in person.

Despite missing the connection with fans, Homa prefers face-to-face interactions, where he’s yet to meet anyone as cruel as the faceless critics online. His candid remarks come amid a challenging season, with seven missed cuts in 16 tournaments and a single top-25 finish at the Masters. Last month, he endured a gut-wrenching moment in U.S. Open qualifying, missing the cut after a three-putt on the final hole while carrying his own bag for 36 holes.

Homa’s stance highlights a broader issue: the toll of online toxicity on public figures. While he misses the fan engagement X once offered, the hate has proven too overwhelming, pushing him to seek healthier ways to connect.
