Meghan Markle shows subtle support after Prince Harry loses his U.K. security appeal, sharing a heartfelt family photo amid ongoing royal family tensions.

Prince Harry just took a big hit in his ongoing quest for U.K. security, and—no surprise here—Meghan Markle is standing firmly in his corner. After Harry’s latest legal defeat, Meghan posted a sweet family photo that, without a single caption, spoke volumes about where her loyalty lies. The snapshot features Harry going barefoot—classic California dad move—strolling hand-in-hand with Archie, while little Lilibet gets a lift on his shoulders. If subtle support were an Olympic sport, Meghan would be bringing home the gold.

The Court of Appeal ruled on Friday that Harry wasn’t treated unfairly when officials decided to review his security case-by-case whenever he visits the U.K. The judges agreed with an earlier High Court decision that the "bespoke" security plan wasn’t unlawful or irrational, as Harry had argued. It’s a bitter pill, considering the Duke and Duchess of Sussex lost their taxpayer-funded protection back in 2020 when they stepped away from royal duties amid relentless media scrutiny and a very public family rift.

During a rare two-day hearing last month, Harry’s lawyer argued that his life is at risk and said he was being given the royal version of "special treatment"—which, in this case, apparently means less protection. Harry’s camp insists he doesn’t feel safe traveling to the U.K. with Meghan and their kids unless he gets official police protection. According to People magazine, Harry still hopes his father, King Charles III, might step in and help restore his security.

After the appeal loss, Harry told the BBC he’d "love a reconciliation" with his family and admitted that King Charles won’t speak to him because of the "security stuff." Harry said he never asked his father to intervene—just to step back and let security experts handle things. He blamed the royal household for influencing the decision and described the court loss as a "good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up." Not exactly subtle, but at least he’s honest.

Harry says he can’t imagine bringing Meghan and the kids back to the U.K. anytime soon, even though he misses his home country. "The things they’re going to miss is, well, everything," he said, echoing the kind of homesick nostalgia most expats know all too well. Guess the next royal reunion is going to require a lot more than a group chat invite.
