Meghan Markle launches her Netflix lifestyle series 'With Love, Meghan,' blending cooking, gardening, and decor, as she strives to cement her Hollywood status post-royalty.
Five years after stepping away from royal duties, Meghan Markle is diving back into the spotlight, this time as a lifestyle influencer with her new Netflix series, "With Love, Meghan." Set to premiere on March 4th, the eight-episode show marks a pivotal moment for the Duchess of Sussex, whose Hollywood ambitions have been closely scrutinized since her royal exit.
The series, delayed earlier this year due to the Los Angeles fires, will reportedly coincide with the launch of Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, with products expected to appear in Netflix stores. According to branding expert Doug Eldridge, this is a critical moment that could either cement Meghan’s place in Hollywood or sideline her further. "Hollywood runs on temperature, not talent," Eldridge remarked, adding that a successful show could reignite Meghan’s "Markle Sparkle."
But the stakes are high. Meghan has faced significant challenges along the way, from accusations of trademark mishaps with her lifestyle brand to claims of copying concepts from other influencers and shows. Despite these bumps, Eldridge noted her resilience: "Loss after loss, she’s stayed in the fight."
Christopher Andersen, author of "The King," suggested Meghan aims to position herself closer to a modern Martha Stewart than a reality TV star. He described the show as a mix of cooking, gardening, and home decorating, with celebrity cameos sprinkled in. "No whining, no crusading – just lifestyle advice delivered against a gorgeous backdrop," Andersen observed. He added that a touch of humor and humility could make Meghan’s effort more relatable to audiences.
However, not everyone is convinced. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams criticized the series’ trailer as a "schmaltzy, garishly colored attempt" to mimic influencers like Gwyneth Paltrow. He warned that failure here could jeopardize Meghan and Prince Harry’s future collaborations with Netflix.
Supporters, though, see potential. Andersen pointed out that during tough economic times, audiences have historically turned to escapism, citing the popularity of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers during the Great Depression. "If she plays her cards right, Meghan might well have a hit on her hands," he suggested.
Netflix described the show as a reimagination of the lifestyle genre, blending practical advice with candid conversations. Meghan’s guests will include renowned chefs and other special friends, offering a mix of playfulness and personal tips. It's a natural evolution for someone who once shared her favorite recipes and travel tips on her now-defunct blog, The Tig.
Still, reputational challenges loom large. British broadcaster Helena Chard noted that Meghan’s journey has been marred by inconsistencies and controversies, which have hurt her brand’s credibility. "Confusion and inauthenticity run through her endeavors," Chard remarked, adding that the lifestyle space is already crowded and competitive. Yet, she acknowledged Meghan’s ace in the hole: the royal allure of Prince Harry, whose appearances in the series may lend it extra gravitas.
Whether audiences tune in out of genuine interest or sheer curiosity, Eldridge believes the show’s production quality and style will ultimately determine its success. "Even if it’s light on substance, if the style and texture are on-point, it might resonate with certain key demos," he said.
As Hollywood loves a good comeback, many are rooting for Meghan to succeed. According to Chard, a hit show could lead to industry applause and perhaps even a second act for the Duchess of Sussex. For Meghan Markle, this Netflix series isn’t just another project – it’s the ultimate litmus test for her future in Hollywood.

Meghan Markle’s Hollywood journey almost feels like a reality series in itself – and not the kind she’s trying to avoid. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and while the idea of canning preserves in a Montecito mansion might feel a bit tone-deaf to some, let’s face it – escapism sells. If she manages to sprinkle in some genuine charm and relatability, this could be her golden ticket. But let’s hope it’s more Martha Stewart and less Pinterest cosplay.
