Idit Ohel, mother of hostage Alon Ohel, pleads globally for his release from Hamas captivity, highlighting his dire condition and urging action as diplomatic efforts stall.
In a plea that strikes at the heart of every parent, Idit Ohel, the mother of Alon Ohel, a young man taken hostage during the Nova Music Festival on October 7, 2023, is calling on the global community—especially mothers—to help secure her son's release from Hamas captivity. Her anguish grows as no progress has been made toward a second-phase ceasefire following last week's conclusion of the initial truce.
"I think every mother in this world, if they just stopped for a second, would even be able to breathe, knowing that their son or daughter is being starved, chained, and kept in terrible conditions? It's unbearable," Idit passionately told Fox News Digital. The raw emotion in her words is hard to ignore.
Alon, now held hostage for 518 days since the October 2023 attacks, was injured during the assault when shrapnel struck his right eye as he sheltered outside the Nova festival. According to other hostages who have since been released, his injuries have gone untreated, leaving him at risk of losing his eyesight completely. Footage shared with Fox News paints a grim picture of the conditions faced by Alon and others during the attack and their subsequent abduction.
Last month, it was confirmed that Alon is still alive, though now believed to be held in isolation. This confirmation has done little to ease his mother’s fears. "I have no idea where Alon is right now, but as a mother, I’m frightened for him. He needs to come back as soon as possible—it’s urgent," she said.
Idit has traveled from Israel to Washington, D.C., to amplify her voice, urging anyone with the power to act. She has placed her hopes on former President Donald Trump, who recently met with hostages released from Gaza. Some of these individuals reportedly expressed their belief that Trump had "been sent by God" to help secure their freedom. Idit shares this faith. "I know that Trump can bring my son home. When he wants something, he does it," she said, adding, "I’m rooting for him."
Meanwhile, reports have emerged of the Trump administration directly negotiating with Hamas to secure the release of five American hostages still held in Gaza, including Edan Alexander, the only surviving American. These unprecedented talks reportedly include discussions of a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of 10 hostages, a move that has caused tension with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It's a diplomatic chess match with lives hanging in the balance.
Idit ended her plea with a direct message to her son: "We pray for you, and I am doing everything in my power to make sure that you are not forgotten. You are not forgotten. People here think about you every day, and they want to save you and bring you back home. Your father, your sister, your brother, and I are with you all the time."
As the world watches and waits, one thing is clear—Idit Ohel will not stop fighting for her son’s freedom. Her determination is a powerful reminder that, in moments of despair, the love of a parent knows no borders.

Idit Ohel’s story is a gut-punch for anyone with a heart, but her unwavering belief in Trump’s ability to bring her son home is a plot twist I didn’t see coming. It’s fascinating how personal faith in a political figure can become a lifeline in the darkest of times. Also, the fact that Alon’s injury has been left untreated for so long is enraging—how is this not a bigger humanitarian outcry?
