Motorcyclist Who Vanished Into Sinkhole Found Dead After Intense Search

A tragic discovery was made in South Korea’s largest city as emergency crews found the body of a motorcyclist who had vanished into a massive sinkhole in Seoul. The sinkhole, a gaping 65 feet wide and 65 feet deep, opened suddenly at an intersection in the Myeongil-dong neighborhood on Monday afternoon, swallowing the man and injuring a passing van driver.

Authorities identified the victim as a man in his 30s. According to emergency officer Kim Chang Seob, the rescue operation was anything but straightforward. While the motorcyclist’s fate ended tragically, there was some relief in the case of the injured van driver, who sustained only minor injuries. Dashboard camera footage from the scene showed a vehicle narrowly escaping the sinkhole just seconds before the motorcyclist plunged in—a near-miss that makes you shudder at the randomness of such events.

The cause of this enormous sinkhole remains under investigation, and questions are swirling about how something like this could happen in such a densely populated urban area. The incident has undoubtedly raised concerns about infrastructure safety in Seoul.
