Former NBA star Vlade Divac, known for his towering presence on the court, took an unexpected tumble off a motorcycle in Montenegro, landing him in the hospital with a broken hip. The 57-year-old Serbian legend underwent emergency surgery on Friday, where doctors fitted him with an artificial hip along the picturesque Adriatic Sea coast. According to hospital spokeswoman Ljubica Mitrovic, the operation went smoothly, and Divac is now stable, under the watchful eyes of medical staff in Risan.

Divac, a trailblazer for European players in the NBA, carved out a storied career, most notably with the Sacramento Kings, alongside stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Hornets. His 2001 All-Star nod and 2019 induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame cemented his legacy as a pioneer who played over 1,000 NBA games—a first for a player born and trained outside the U.S. Beyond the court, he served as the Kings’ general manager and led the Serbian Olympic Committee from 2009 to 2017.
