NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe faces a $50 million lawsuit alleging sexual assault and battery, with both parties strongly disputing the claims as the legal battle unfolds.
Shannon Sharpe, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champ, is now at the center of a $50 million lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and battery. The civil suit was filed in Nevada on Sunday and details disturbing claims of assault, manipulation, and threats of violence against a woman who says she began a "rocky consensual relationship" with Sharpe in 2023, when she was 19 years old.
The lawsuit alleges that Sharpe sexually assaulted the plaintiff on two occasions—once in October 2024 and again in January 2025. According to the 13-page complaint, Sharpe is accused of intentionally inflicting emotional distress, manipulating and controlling the plaintiff, and threatening her with violence. The suit paints a picture of a relationship marked by power imbalance and alleged abuse, with the woman now seeking $50 million in damages.
Representing the plaintiff is attorney Tony Buzbee, known for winning settlements for women who accused NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson of assault. The case details include claims that Sharpe refused to accept the plaintiff’s "no," allegedly resulting in rape, despite "sobbing and repeated screams."
Sharpe, through his attorney Lanny J. Davis, has categorically denied all allegations, describing the lawsuit as a "blatant and cynical attempt to shake down Mr. Sharpe for millions of dollars." Davis released a statement alleging the plaintiff sent sexually explicit messages to Sharpe and even presented him with a secretly recorded video of a consensual encounter—one Davis claims was "heavily edited and taken entirely out of context."
Davis emphasized that the messages between Sharpe and the plaintiff indicate a consensual sexual relationship, often initiated by the plaintiff herself. He further stated that Sharpe "categorically denies all allegations of coercion or misconduct—especially the gross lie of ‘rape’—and will not submit to what he sees as an egregious attempt at blackmail."
Sharpe’s legal team says he is prepared to fight the claims vigorously in court and looks forward to vindication through due process. As this high-profile case unfolds, it’s clear that both sides are digging in for a legal battle that’s likely to make headlines for months to come. One thing’s for sure: this is a story with more twists than a playoff overtime.

From the gridiron to the courtroom—when NFL legends make headlines off the field, it’s rarely for their fantasy football picks. With $50 million on the line, this lawsuit might just make the Super Bowl look like a preseason game in terms of drama. If only referees could throw a flag for 'alleged emotional distress'—the replay booth would be working overtime.
