NHL legend Dominik Hasek criticizes Donald Trump for not condemning Russia after a deadly missile strike in Kyiv, as Trump suggests controversial peace proposals involving Crimea.
Legendary NHL goalie Dominik Hasek has taken a sharp slap shot at Donald Trump after a deadly Russian missile attack rocked Kyiv, killing at least nine and injuring more than sixty, including children. Ukrainian officials said the overnight assault, which struck five neighborhoods, sparked fires in multiple districts and left the city reeling.
But while Kyiv was counting the cost, Hasek was counting reasons to call out the former U.S. president. On X, he wrote, "Tonight, Russia killed at least 9 people and injured 63 in Ukraine again. And at the same time, the Am. president (Donald Trump) is unable to condemn these terrible crimes." Hasek went on to accuse Trump of failing to hold Vladimir Putin accountable and criticized him for targeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instead of Russia. In Hasek’s words, Trump is "a traitor to the democratic world." That's a pretty icy accusation, even for a hockey legend.
The Trump camp, meanwhile, has reportedly floated peace proposals that would recognize Russia's control of Crimea as part of a potential ceasefire—effectively freezing the current frontlines. The idea hasn’t exactly warmed Ukrainian hearts. President Zelenskyy, firm as ever, told reporters that Ukraine would "not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea." He insisted there’s "nothing to talk about here," reiterating that giving up territory is off the table.
Trump fired back on Truth Social, calling Zelenskyy’s stance "very harmful" to peacemaking and even suggesting Ukraine could lose everything if it keeps fighting. According to Trump, Crimea was "lost years ago" and shouldn’t even be up for debate. Not exactly the pep talk Kyiv was hoping for.
Hasek’s feud with Trump isn’t new—he has publicly criticized him before, especially during past election cycles. But this time, the stakes couldn’t be higher, with real lives hanging in the balance and the future of Ukraine at a crossroads.

When a Hall of Fame goalie goes after a former president, you know things have gotten wild. If only peace in Ukraine could be settled in a penalty shootout, maybe we’d finally see some real saves. Hasek’s not pulling any punches, but let’s be honest—when world leaders treat countries like hockey pucks, everyone ends up with a bruised ego.
