Brief
Filmmaker Oliver Stone criticizes Democrats for the Russiagate investigation, praises Trump’s declassification order, and challenges U.S. narratives on Russia, China, and censorship issues.
Left-wing filmmaker Oliver Stone didn’t hold back as he slammed Democrats for allegedly weaponizing federal law enforcement and manipulating facts during their effort to accuse then-President Donald Trump of Russian collusion in the 2016 election. Stone accused them of "lying" to the American people and applauded Trump’s response to the controversy.
Trump recently signed an executive order mandating the FBI to declassify documents related to Crossfire Hurricane, the investigation that initially explored whether members of Trump's campaign had coordinated with Russia to influence the election. As part of his pushback, Trump also suspended security clearances for attorneys connected to the scandal and barred them from entering federal buildings. Talk about turning the tables.
Stone didn’t mince words when asked about the federal government being weaponized against conservatives. "There was," he said, standing firm in his opinion that Trump’s actions to uncover the truth are "absolutely" justified. Stone went further to criticize the underlying narrative of Russiagate, calling the portrayal of Russia as a perpetual antagonist "un-American." To him, the Cold War mindset still lingering in U.S. politics is all smoke and mirrors.
"Russiagate – we paid for it,” Stone said. "I applaud [what Trump is doing], and I hate what they did with Russiagate, I really do. I think it's – again, the lying, the lying, the lying, and selling that to the American people." Yikes, tell us how you really feel, Oliver.
Interestingly, Stone doubled down on his controversial stance, arguing that Russia and even China could be valuable allies rather than adversaries. "They are potentially our best partners, as are the Chinese," he said, dismissing the narrative of these nations as enemies as mere propaganda. He added that visiting Russia or China would reveal a stark contrast to the hostile rhetoric prevalent in American discourse.
But Stone wasn’t entirely on Trump’s side. He voiced dismay over what he called Trump’s "censorship" of pro-Palestinian protesters accused of antisemitism. "I don’t like this new thing about censorship coming from Trump," Stone remarked, lamenting the president’s stance on what he labeled "antisemitic news." According to Stone, this approach contradicts the promises Trump made earlier in his presidency.
Stone, known for his provocative documentaries and controversial views, isn’t shy about taking on the political establishment. Whether you see him as a truth-teller or provocateur, his latest comments are sure to stir up debate.

Oliver Stone’s knack for diving headfirst into political controversies never ceases to amaze me. His criticism of Russiagate echoes sentiments felt by many, even if his ‘Russia as a partner’ argument might make some folks choke on their coffee. And let’s be real—him calling out Trump’s censorship while backing his executive orders is a fascinating contradiction. Stone’s ability to push buttons on both sides of the aisle feels like a masterclass in controlled chaos.
