Oregon Boy, 2, Goes Missing From Family Front Yard, Sparking Massive Search

A 2-year-old boy from Oregon, Dane Paulsen, disappeared from his family’s front yard in broad daylight on Saturday, setting off a large-scale search operation, according to authorities.

Dane was last seen just before 4:30 p.m. while playing out of his parents' view outside their home north of Siletz, a small city near the Siletz River. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office issued a statement Sunday describing Dane as "friendly and fearless," comfortable around both strangers and water, though he cannot swim. They noted his particular fondness for vehicles and water.

The search effort has been nothing short of massive. Hundreds of people, including certified rescuers, a Sheriff’s posse, and community volunteers, have scoured nearly 300 miles of terrain within the first 24 hours of Dane’s disappearance. Despite their efforts, no signs of the boy have been found so far.

Authorities deployed a variety of resources in the search, including divers, drones, watercraft, K-9 units, and dozens of investigators. The Lincoln County Major Crime Team and even the FBI have stepped in to assist with the operation, as numerous leads are being actively pursued.

In a potentially relieving update, investigators ruled out any connection to an unknown vehicle spotted near a bridge close to the family’s home about 30 minutes before Dane went missing. The vehicle and its driver were identified and are no longer considered relevant to the case.
