Senate Republican Tim Sheehy's SAFE Cities Act threatens federal funding for 'anarchist jurisdictions' opposing Trump's immigration policies after LA riots.

In a bold move that’s stirring up the political pot, Senate Republican Tim Sheehy from Montana is spearheading a legislative effort to clamp down on what he calls 'anarchist jurisdictions.' His proposed Stop Anarchists from Endangering (SAFE) Cities Act aims to cut federal funding to cities that resist President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, especially in the wake of recent anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles.

Sheehy’s bill would task Attorney General Pam Bondi with identifying and publicly listing these so-called anarchist cities. Once on the list, these jurisdictions could see their federal grants restricted, as directed by Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought. It’s a financial stick meant to enforce compliance with federal immigration priorities.

The senator minced no words, stating that it’s high time local governments prioritize the safety of their citizens over what he sees as far-left leniency toward violent criminals. This legislative push comes hot on the heels of tensions in Los Angeles, where Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass have openly challenged Trump’s deportation efforts, leading to a lawsuit from the administration claiming interference with federal immigration operations.

Adding to the momentum, Representative Tony Wied from Wisconsin has introduced a companion bill in the House, echoing the call to stop rewarding officials who, in his view, prioritize extremists over law-abiding citizens. This isn’t a new idea—it builds on a memo from Trump’s first term post-George Floyd unrest, where he vowed not to let federal dollars prop up 'lawless zones.'

Under the SAFE Cities Act, cities could be labeled anarchist if they hinder law enforcement from maintaining order, defund police, or reject federal aid for policing. It’s a clear message: align with federal priorities, or risk the purse strings being pulled tight. As this debate unfolds, it’s shaping up to be a fierce battle over local autonomy versus national policy—and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Well, folks, it seems Senator Sheehy is playing financial hardball with cities he deems 'anarchist.' I can’t help but wonder if Los Angeles will start a GoFundMe titled 'Help, We’re Not Anarchists!' to keep the federal cash flowing. But seriously, this bill is less about chaos and more about control—whose rules reign supreme? That’s the real riot here.
