Secretary of State Marco Rubio signals U.S. may end diplomatic push for Russia-Ukraine peace if no progress is made soon, as conflict and debate over aid continue.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has signaled that the United States is weighing whether to continue pushing for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, saying the next few days will be critical in determining if such an agreement is even possible. If progress can't be made soon, Rubio suggested the U.S. could be ready to "move on."

"If it's not possible," Rubio said, he believes President Donald Trump is reaching the point where he'll say, "Well, we're done." The message is pretty clear: time is running out for the diplomatic push, and the U.S. isn't interested in dragging things out if both sides aren't serious about ending the conflict.

Rubio emphasized that the U.S. remains willing to help if either Russia or Ukraine—or ideally both—show a real commitment to peace. But with little movement on the ground and both sides still entrenched, it's hard not to notice the sense of frustration creeping in.

In a recent post on X, Rubio wrote, "@POTUS has been clear: The time to end the war between Russia and Ukraine is now. Today in Paris, @SE_MiddleEast, @SPE_Kellogg and I met with leaders from France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ukraine to talk about how we can stop the killing and reach a just and sustainable peace." The diplomatic marathon continues, but it's starting to look like the finish line might be moving further away.

Meanwhile, the war rages on. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described a grim Good Friday, reporting that Russia began the day with ballistic and cruise missile strikes, as well as drone attacks, causing devastation across Ukrainian cities. The violence shows no sign of letting up.

On Capitol Hill, the debate over U.S. assistance to Ukraine is still going strong. Representative Don Bacon, a Nebraska Republican, has called for the U.S. and its European allies to "arm Ukraine to the max" so the country can defend itself—not just against Russia, but, as he put it, "now the North Koreans and Chinese" as well. Clearly, there's no shortage of hawkish voices in Washington urging more military support.

You'd think international diplomacy comes with a snooze button, but apparently not—Rubio is giving the peace talks a literal countdown. If only world peace could be scheduled like a dentist appointment, right?
