Russia’s massive drone attack on Ukraine, with over 700 drones, prompts NATO jets to scramble as Ukraine’s defenses shine.

Russia unleashed its largest drone assault on Ukraine yet, launching over 700 drones in a single night, prompting NATO jets to scramble in response. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the barrage as a "massive attack" targeting cities across the country, with more than 300 Shahed drones and 13 missiles, including Kinzhals and Iskanders, raining down. Ukraine’s Air Force, showing remarkable grit, neutralized 718 targets, with 303 shot down by fire and 415 lost to tracking, particularly around the northwestern city of Lutsk.

Zelenskyy praised the precision of Ukraine’s defenders, highlighting the use of interceptor drones and mobile fire groups that downed dozens of targets. "We’re scaling up this technology," he said, signaling a fierce determination to counter Russia’s escalating aggression. Damage was reported in multiple regions, including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv, underscoring the widespread impact of the attack.

Poland, Ukraine’s neighbor, activated its air defenses as the assault unfolded, with fighter jets and radar systems on high alert to secure its airspace. The Polish military later stood down as the immediate threat subsided. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its strikes targeted Ukrainian air bases, asserting all targets were hit, while also reporting the downing of 86 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory, including near Moscow.

Zelenskyy didn’t mince words, calling the attack a deliberate slap in the face to peace efforts. "This comes when so many are pushing for a ceasefire, yet Russia keeps fueling its war machine with oil money," he said, urging stronger sanctions to choke Moscow’s resources. The timing of the assault, amid global calls for de-escalation, exposes Russia’s relentless drive to prolong the conflict.

Russia’s sending 700 drones like it’s Black Friday at a war surplus store, but Ukraine’s air defenses are playing whack-a-mole with deadly precision. Zelenskyy’s call for sanctions hits the nail on the head—cut off Moscow’s oil cash, or they’ll keep shopping for chaos.
