Sage Steele slams Ryan Clark for 'classless' comments about Robert Griffin III's wife, escalating their feud amid WNBA drama.
The sports media world is no stranger to fiery exchanges, but the latest clash between former ESPN colleagues Sage Steele and Ryan Clark has taken things to a new level of personal. On Tuesday, Steele didn’t hold back, labeling Clark’s recent comments as “classless, divisive, gross, and unnecessary” after he took a swipe at former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III’s personal life.
Clark, on his podcast, implied Griffin wasn’t having “conversations at home about what Black women endure” because his wife is White. The jab came as Clark criticized Griffin for joining what he called the “hate train” against WNBA star Angel Reese after her on-court scuffle with Caitlin Clark. Steele, catching wind of the remarks, fired back on X, calling them shameful and par for the course for Clark.
Griffin didn’t stay silent either, slamming Clark’s comments as revealing “how low of a person he is.” This isn’t the first time Steele and Clark have butted heads. Their history includes tension over Steele’s conservative views and her past remarks about former President Barack Obama, which Clark said offended him enough to request a different host for an ESPN segment. Steele’s ongoing lawsuit against ESPN alleges Clark refused to work with her due to her politics.
The backdrop to this drama includes the WNBA incident where Caitlin Clark was assessed a flagrant foul for a play involving Reese. Clark called it a “good take foul,” a sentiment Reese echoed, but the off-court commentary has clearly stolen the spotlight. While Clark’s Indiana Fever dominated Reese’s Chicago Sky 93-58, the real fireworks are happening in the media, where personal jabs and old grudges are fueling a very public feud.

Ryan Clark’s throwing shade like it’s an Olympic sport, but picking on RGIII’s marriage? That’s a foul even Caitlin Clark couldn’t justify. Looks like Clark’s podcast is less about analysis and more about auditioning for a soap opera—next episode, will he feud with the referee?
