Saints star Cameron Jordan slams NFL’s taunting rule, urging the league to let players celebrate and bring back the fun in football.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan is calling for a return to the good old days of football, where a little swagger after a big play wasn’t just tolerated—it was celebrated. Speaking at Fanatics Fest in New York over the weekend, the eight-time Pro Bowler didn’t hold back when asked about the NFL’s "dumbest rule."
"For the fans, I think it’s excessive celebration," Jordan declared with his trademark energy. "If a player scores a touchdown, dragging three defenders on their back, let them revel in it! I get a sack on a quarterback, give me five seconds. Shine the spotlight on me!"
The NFL rulebook, however, isn’t as forgiving. Taunting and excessive celebrations fall under unsportsmanlike conduct, and the league has cracked down hard in recent years. Back in 2021, a record 61 taunting flags were thrown—the highest in at least two decades. Though the numbers dropped to 21 in 2022, 17 in 2023, and 20 last season, the restrictions still irk players like Jordan.
"Let us celebrate," he urged passionately. "It’s OK to taunt. Bring back taunting. Let me talk my piece." For Jordan, a little harmless trash talk and post-play flair are part of the game’s spirit, a way to connect with fans and fuel the competitive fire.
His plea raises a bigger question: has the NFL gone too far in policing personality? In a sport built on raw emotion and spectacle, stifling celebration might just strip away some of the joy that makes football, well, football.

Cameron Jordan’s got a point—football’s a gladiator sport, not a tea party. If a guy sacks a QB, let him do a victory jig! The NFL’s acting like a grumpy principal at a school dance, shutting down the fun. Here’s a thought: maybe they should issue ‘taunt permits’—five seconds of sass per play. Bet Jordan would buy a season pass!
