Secret Service officers shot an armed man near the White House after a confrontation. The suspect is hospitalized; no officers were injured. The Metropolitan Police are investigating.
The Secret Service shot a man during an armed confrontation near the White House early Sunday morning, according to an announcement by the agency.
The incident unfolded just after midnight, a block west of the White House near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
Details leading up to the confrontation emerged when police on Saturday provided information about a suicidal individual reportedly traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C.
At around midnight, members of the Secret Service located the man’s parked car near 17th and F Streets, NW, and spotted someone matching the description. As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, which led to an armed confrontation, the agency stated. Shots were fired by Secret Service personnel.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, although his condition remains unknown. Fortunately, no injuries to Secret Service officers were reported during the incident.
The Metropolitan Police Department is now leading the investigation into the shooting, as it falls under their jurisdiction for use-of-force incidents in the District of Columbia.
Notably, President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time of the incident. According to his schedule, he was at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and is expected to return to Washington later today.

This is a tense reminder of how quickly situations can escalate near one of the most secure locations on Earth. The fact that this individual traveled from Indiana with seemingly troubling intentions adds an eerie layer to the story. I can't help but wonder—was this a case of desperation, or something more calculated? Either way, credit to the Secret Service for handling this without injuries on their side. But seriously, midnight drama like this is the kind of thing we’d expect in a political thriller, not real life.
