Sen. Murphy Confirms Biden’s Cognitive Decline, Questions 2024 Strategy

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) has openly acknowledged what many have whispered about: President Joe Biden experienced cognitive decline during his term. In a candid interview with Politico, Murphy stated, "There’s no doubt about it," when asked about Biden’s mental acuity. The real question, he argued, is whether this decline hindered Biden’s ability to lead effectively as commander-in-chief.

Murphy’s remarks come amid growing scrutiny of Biden’s presidency, particularly after his decision to stay in the 2024 race longer than some Democrats deemed wise. Reflecting on the Democratic Party’s electoral loss, Murphy suggested Biden’s candidacy may have cost them dearly. "We lost," he said bluntly, noting that voters craved change—something neither Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris could convincingly offer.

Biden, however, has pushed back against these claims. During a recent appearance on The View, the former president dismissed suggestions of significant cognitive decline in his final year. Yet, Murphy’s earlier comments on CNN last year, before Biden exited the 2024 race, hinted at doubts. He pointed to Biden’s debate performance, which "raised questions" about whether the president was still the sharp leader of old.

Despite these concerns, Murphy praised Biden’s legislative record, calling his first four years unmatched in modern presidential history. Still, the senator admitted that a different strategy—perhaps Biden stepping aside earlier—might have bolstered the Democrats’ chances in 2024.
