In a dramatic scene in Los Angeles, Democratic Senator Alex Padilla was escorted out of a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press conference after a heated outburst, sparking polarized reactions from lawmakers. The incident, which quickly went viral, unfolded as Padilla interrupted DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s remarks on anti-ICE unrest in the city, where federal immigration arrests have intensified.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called it a “disgusting situation,” while Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez simply labeled it “crazy.” Democrats widely criticized the Secret Service’s decision to handcuff and remove Padilla, with some even demanding Noem’s resignation. The FBI later clarified that Padilla was released after identifying himself, as he wasn’t wearing his Senate security pin during the disruption. DHS dismissed the episode as “disrespectful political theater,” while Padilla argued it was a calculated move to silence dissent.
