Sen. John Fetterman calls for the destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities, dismisses diplomacy, and urges strong US-Israel action against Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania isn’t mincing words about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The Democratic senator is calling for the outright destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities, stating bluntly, “Waste that s---,” in a recent interview. Fetterman argued that negotiation with Iran is pointless, labeling the regime as destabilizing and beyond diplomacy. In his view, the only way to deal with Tehran’s nuclear program is to hit it—hard.
He elaborated, “You’re never going to be able to negotiate with that kind of regime that has been destabilizing the region for decades already, and now we have an incredible window, I believe, to do that, to strike and destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities.” Clearly, subtlety is not his strong suit.
Fetterman also reflected on the history of US-Iran relations, saying he understood why former President Trump bailed on the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal. But now, he can’t fathom why anyone would even try to negotiate with what he called a “diseased regime.” According to Fetterman, the only talks Iran deserves come in the form of “30,000-pound bombs and the IDF.” In case anyone missed the memo, the IDF refers to the Israel Defense Forces.
Meanwhile, the US is still pursuing a diplomatic route, with officials confirming a third round of nuclear talks with Iran after reporting what they called “very good progress.” Fetterman’s office didn’t respond to requests for further comment on Thursday, but his stance is loud and clear—less talking, more bombing.
Fetterman’s hawkish position isn’t exactly new. Last week, he posted on X that Iran’s nuclear program exists solely to build weapons and that the US should go all in on supporting Israel to wipe out Iran’s capabilities.
International agencies are still urging a “trust but verify” approach, hoping Iran will engage in good-faith negotiations. But Fetterman seems to think good faith at the table is as likely as snow in Tehran’s summer.
Even Donald Trump waded into the topic this week, announcing that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about Iran, declaring, “We are on the same side of every issue.” Looks like the ‘special relationship’ is alive and well—at least on social media.
Fetterman, for his part, has been consistent. Back in January, he declared on X, “Whatever remains of Iran’s nuclear program needs to be destroyed and I fully support efforts to do so.” If there’s one thing you can say about the senator, it’s that he rarely leaves you guessing where he stands.

Fetterman’s approach to foreign policy is so direct, I’m surprised he hasn’t suggested mailing Iran a breakup letter written in all caps. If US diplomacy ever needs a hype man, he’s clearly available.
