Henkel has recalled Tec Italy Totale Shampoo due to contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca bacteria, posing health risks. Affected bottles were sold in New York and California.

Henkel’s Tec Italy Totale Shampoo has been recalled after microbiological analyses revealed contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca bacteria, potentially posing a health risk to consumers. This voluntary recall, conducted by Henkel’s Mexico unit, includes 1,068 bottles of the shampoo.

The product, distributed in New York and California and possibly beyond, was sold directly to consumers by retailers. It comes in a green plastic 33.81-fluid-ounce bottle marked with lot number 1G27542266 and UPC code 7501438375850.

Exposure to Klebsiella oxytoca can lead to infections affecting the eyes, nose, and skin. Henkel has warned that consumers with compromised immune systems might experience more severe reactions. So far, there have been no reported cases of injury or harm stemming from the contamination.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected product and return it to the purchase location for a full refund. Henkel also urged anyone experiencing symptoms or with medical concerns to consult a physician.

Henkel emphasized its commitment to minimizing inconvenience for customers and ensuring satisfaction. The recall is being conducted in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

While the contamination hasn’t caused harm yet, it’s hard not to wonder how a bacteria known for wrecking immune systems managed to sneak into shampoo bottles. Talk about an uninvited guest in your hair care routine.

A bacteria that can cause infections in shampoo? Honestly, this feels like something straight out of a bad sci-fi movie. Klebsiella oxytoca is not who you want hanging around your shower routine. Henkel seems to be handling this professionally, but it does make you think about how rigorous product testing needs to be.
