Shedeur Sanders Keeps His Cool as NFL Draft Drama Hits Fever Pitch

Football fans everywhere are doing double takes as Shedeur Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes' star quarterback and last year's Heisman finalist, is still waiting for his name to be called in the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite hopes he'd be snapped up by the end of Day 2, Sanders is heading into the final Draft day with nothing but gratitude and optimism, at least on social media.
The suspense grew Friday night in Green Bay as three other quarterbacks—Tyler Shough to the New Orleans Saints, Jalen Milroe to the Seattle Seahawks, and Dillon Gabriel to the Cleveland Browns—were picked ahead of Sanders. Cam Ward went first overall to the Titans, and the Giants even traded back into the first round to snag Jaxson Dart. Meanwhile, Sanders watched the picks fly by, keeping his composure and faith, posting online, "Thank you GOD for EVERYTHING." On Saturday morning, he doubled down with another message: "Another day another opportunity to get a chance to play the game I love. Thank you GOD #LEGENDARY."
With 102 prospects already taken, the football world is buzzing with one question: What gives? Some point fingers at his famous dad, Deion Sanders, while others suspect those infamous "bad meetings" with NFL teams during the process. Still, it’s almost unheard of for a quarterback with Sanders’ track record—elite accuracy, strong arm, and four years of jaw-dropping tape—to slip this far down the board.
ESPN's Booger McFarland didn’t pull punches during the broadcast, calling Sanders "the best pure passer you can draft," and expressing disbelief that so-called "developmental" QBs were taken before him. Mel Kiper Jr. went even further, calling the situation "disgusting" and saying he just doesn't get it. I mean, when the draft makes Mel Kiper speechless, you know things are weird.
Sanders spent draft night surrounded by friends and family in Texas, waiting for that life-changing call. In a twist that’s equal parts cruel and 2025, someone prank-called him during his Twitch stream, which he quickly ended. If nothing else, the guy’s patience is being tested almost as much as his arm strength.
Round 4 kicks off at noon in Green Bay, and all eyes are on teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders to see who will finally take the plunge. History’s proven Day 3 quarterbacks can turn out to be legends—just ask Tom Brady or Dak Prescott. Maybe Shedeur’s about to join some pretty elite company after all.
Editor's Comments
If Shedeur needs a new motto after all this, I’d suggest: "Keep calm and wait for the phone to ring." The NFL Draft is turning into a reality show, and Sanders’ cool under pressure might just be the plot twist we didn’t know we needed. By the way, whoever prank-called him deserves a flag on the play for unsportsmanlike conduct—honestly, not all heroes wear jerseys, but some villains definitely have Wi-Fi.
