Shedeur Sanders Shocks NFL World After First-Round Draft Snub: 'We All Didn’t Expect This'

Shedeur Sanders experienced a jaw-dropping moment on Thursday night after sliding out of the first round of the NFL Draft, defying projections that once put him at the very top of the board. The former Colorado quarterback, once a favorite for the No. 1 overall pick, closed out the first round without hearing his name called—a twist that left his family and fans equally stunned.
Footage shared by his brother captured the Sanders clan processing the unexpected turn. Shedeur, remaining remarkably poised, admitted, "We all didn't expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything possible, everything possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason. All of this is, of course, fuel to the fire." Talk about turning lemons into NFL lemonade.
Staying upbeat, Shedeur declared, "Tomorrow's the day. We going to be happy regardless. Legendary." If optimism were a draftable quality, he’d be going first round for sure.
Interestingly, hours before the draft, Shedeur posted on social media, "I’m built for whatever today may bring." Turns out, what the day brought was a reality check that neither he nor his father—NFL legend and Colorado coach Deion Sanders—were prepared for. Deion had recently touted his son as a surefire top-five pick, but the NFL had other plans. The internet, ever merciless, even dropped a community note on Deion’s bold prediction after Shedeur’s slide.
While Shedeur waited, teams like the Titans and Giants snapped up other quarterbacks, with Cam Ward going first overall and Jaxson Dart landing at No. 25. Other teams desperate for QB talent, like the Browns, Saints, and Steelers, also looked elsewhere. For a guy who led the Big 12 with over 4,100 passing yards and 37 touchdowns last season, that’s a rough crowd.
Despite his stellar college stats—14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year—criticism about Sanders’ character and attitude surfaced in the weeks before the draft. Anonymous NFL coaches didn’t hold back, describing him as entitled and difficult to coach, with one even calling their interview with him "the worst" of their career. Another AFC executive chimed in, saying Sanders wanted to "dictate what's best for him" and "makes you feel small." Yikes.
As the dust settles, Shedeur Sanders is left to wait for day two of the draft. Whether he’ll use this as motivation or just a story for the group chat, only time will tell. If nothing else, the NFL sure knows how to keep things dramatic.

Is it just me, or did the NFL Draft turn into an episode of 'Survivor' for Shedeur Sanders? Plot twists, alliances, and someone inevitably getting voted off—except this time the immunity idol was apparently in another conference. If Shedeur ever wants to feel wanted, maybe he should try online dating. At least there you get a notification when someone swipes left.
