Jonah Platt, son of Disney producer Marc Platt, defends his father and criticizes Rachel Zegler for her political posts, blaming them for the 'Snow White' remake's poor reception.
The son of producer Marc Platt, who worked on Disney’s "Snow White" remake, has publicly criticized the film's lead actress Rachel Zegler for allegedly damaging the movie's reputation through her social media posts.
Jonah Platt defended his father in a now-deleted Instagram comment, responding to accusations that Marc Platt had harassed Zegler over her political views. Jonah argued that his father's intervention was necessary to address the studio’s concerns about Zegler’s controversial post promoting the movie while also expressing support for Palestine.
In his comment, Jonah expressed frustration, stating, "My dad had to leave his family and fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into promoting the movie she signed a multi-million dollar contract for."
The controversy stems from Zegler’s "free Palestine" post shared alongside the trailer for "Snow White" last August, which reportedly prompted Marc Platt to visit her in New York. Jonah Platt took issue with an Instagram user describing his father’s trip as "creepy," calling out Zegler’s behavior for "hijacking" the press surrounding the film to promote her political viewpoints.
"Her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office," Jonah remarked, adding that tens of thousands of people worked on the movie and depended on its success, only to see the conversation derailed by Zegler’s "immature desires." He argued that free speech doesn’t grant immunity from professional repercussions.
Disney’s "Snow White" remake opened to lackluster box office results, earning just $43 million domestically during its opening weekend despite earlier projections of $85 million. For comparison, Disney’s "The Lion King" grossed $191 million in its 2019 opening weekend, while "Beauty and the Beast" earned $174 million in 2017.
Critics haven’t been kind either, with the film currently holding a dismal 42% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviews have slammed both the movie's creative choices and its star.
The controversies surrounding Zegler aren’t limited to her political posts. She also faced backlash for previous remarks criticizing supporters of former President Donald Trump, for which she later apologized. Furthermore, Zegler didn’t hold back her opinions about the original 1937 "Snow White" film, calling its storyline "weird" and accusing the prince character of "stalking" Snow White.
Neither Jonah Platt nor Disney commented further on the matter, and Zegler’s representatives have also remained silent. For now, "Snow White" appears to be one of Disney's most challenged live-action remakes, both critically and financially.

Oof, someone clearly didn't get the memo about keeping things professional when promoting a multimillion-dollar project. Zegler's decision to mix her political views with Disney's PR strategy seems to have backfired spectacularly, and Jonah Platt didn’t mince words calling her out. The irony here is that while Snow White’s original prince might have been accused of stalking, the real drama unfolded off-screen—between the cast and producers. Looks like this movie's legacy might be more infamous than fairy tale-like.
