Travis Keith Lang, a South Carolina man and former presidential hopeful, faces federal charges for allegedly threatening to assassinate Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Secret Service investigates.
A South Carolina man, Travis Keith Lang, has landed himself in serious legal trouble after allegedly threatening to assassinate former President Donald Trump. Lang, 47, was arraigned in Columbia on federal charges following his arrest on Thursday. He pleaded not guilty but was denied bond, leaving him detained at the Lexington County Detention Center.
The indictment accuses Lang of threatening to "take the life of, to kidnap, and to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States," which is, let’s just say, not something you want on your résumé. The U.S. Secret Service is investigating, and their Communications Chief, Anthony Guglielmi, emphasized their commitment to protecting public officials, calling for vigilance and public cooperation to report such threats.
Lang’s court appearances continue with a bond hearing set for March 14. If convicted, the man could face up to five years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Adding a layer of intrigue to this case, Lang had previously filed to run for president as a Republican, though records show he wasn’t exactly a fundraising powerhouse. The only donation he got was $6,000—from himself. His social media, which still touts "Travis Lang for President," features a bizarre split image of his face alongside Abraham Lincoln’s. Bold move, Mr. Lang.
Lang’s digital trail shows a history of criticizing both Trump and current President Joe Biden. In fact, Lang’s threats reportedly extended to Biden as well, prompting Secret Service agents to visit him earlier in an attempt to curb his behavior. According to Lang, Biden was "scared" of his presidential ambitions—an interpretation that most people would probably find... unique.
It’s worth noting that Trump himself has had a rough time with security threats, including two assassination attempts last year, one of which left him grazed by a bullet during a campaign rally. While the Secret Service continues its investigations, both Lang’s legal troubles and his unconventional political aspirations are sure to keep the spotlight on him for now.

So, let’s get this straight: a guy who once declared himself a presidential candidate, funded his campaign out of his own pocket, and plastered his social media with images comparing himself to Abraham Lincoln is now facing charges for threatening to kill Trump? You really can't make this stuff up. If Lang was looking for attention, well, mission accomplished—just not the kind he probably hoped for.
