Abigail Spanberger’s first ad slams political nonsense, but her opponent, Winsome Earle-Sears, questions her record in Virginia’s heated gubernatorial race.
Abigail Spanberger, the Virginia Democrat vying to succeed Gov. Glenn Youngkin, launched her first TV ad on Thursday, taking a sharp jab at the political nonsense clogging public service. "Too many politicians talk when they should listen, divide instead of unite," Spanberger declared, positioning herself as a no-nonsense candidate. Drawing on her background in law enforcement and CIA counterterrorism, she emphasized a career free of partisan games, claiming she "broke down divides" and earned the title of Virginia’s most bipartisan congresswoman.
Her promises? Lower costs, tax relief, and making Virginia’s schools the nation’s finest. But her opponent, Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, isn’t buying the pitch. Earle-Sears’ camp slammed Spanberger’s congressional record, accusing her of votes that fueled higher costs and chaos. "Virginians can spot a Washington fraud," snapped Peyton Vogel, Earle-Sears’ press secretary.
Spanberger’s campaign has also stirred controversy. Her criticism of an ICE raid in April at Albemarle County Courthouse, where two illegal immigrants were arrested, drew fire from Earle-Sears and the Department of Homeland Security. Calling the raid shocking, Spanberger questioned the tactics used, sparking accusations from Vogel that she prioritizes criminals over victims.
Adding fuel to the fire, Earle-Sears’ team alleged Spanberger hid her role as a trustee in financial disclosures during her congressional tenure—a claim Spanberger’s campaign dismissed, clarifying the trust only includes her personal residence, exempt from disclosure rules. As the November race heats up, Virginia’s gubernatorial contest is shaping up as a battle of trust, records, and sharply contrasting visions.

Spanberger’s ad paints her as the anti-politician, but her ICE raid remarks have her skating on thin ice with voters. Meanwhile, Earle-Sears swings hard, calling her a ‘Washington fraud.’ Sounds like Virginia’s election is less a race and more a political cage match. Why did Spanberger cross the road? To dodge the trust fund accusations, apparently!
