House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republicans are reviewing constitutional measures to counter what they call activist judges blocking Trump-era policies, citing concerns over judicial overreach and rule of law.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and his Republican colleagues are gearing up for a showdown with what they call "activist judges" standing in the way of former President Donald Trump's agenda. Johnson's office announced that the GOP is reviewing constitutional measures to address judicial resistance, which they argue is undermining governance and the rule of law.

"Activist judges with political agendas pose a significant threat to the rule of law, equal justice, and the separation of powers," Johnson's spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital. The Speaker plans to collaborate with the Judiciary Committee to analyze all possible options for tackling this issue.

One recent flashpoint that might have sparked this review was U.S. District Judge James Boasberg's emergency order to temporarily halt deportation flights initiated under Trump’s administration. The flights targeted Venezuelan nationals and alleged members of the violent gang Tren de Aragua, invoking the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. The judge blocked the deportations to assess the legality of the administration's use of this wartime-era legislation.

Trump, unsurprisingly, did not hold back. In a fiery post on Truth Social, he called for Boasberg's impeachment, saying, "This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!! WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

Trump also lamented the judiciary's interference, writing, "If a President doesn’t have the right to throw murderers, and other criminals, out of our Country because a Radical Left Lunatic Judge wants to assume the role of President, then our Country is in very big trouble, and destined to fail!"

Republicans in the House and Senate seem to agree with Trump’s frustration. Stephen Miller, a close ally and former White House policy advisor, weighed in on X (formerly Twitter), accusing judges of overstepping their bounds. "Under what theory of the Constitution does a single Marxist judge in San Francisco have the same executive power as the Commander-in-Chief elected by the whole nation to lead the executive branch? No such theory exists. It is merely naked judicial tyranny," he wrote.

Now, Johnson and the GOP are exploring legislative and constitutional options to rein in what they see as judicial overreach. Meanwhile, the Senate Judiciary Committee is preparing to hold hearings on the matter in the coming weeks.

The phrase 'activist judges' has become the go-to label for any judge ruling against conservative policies, but can we pause to appreciate how dramatically this escalates the tension between the branches of government? If the GOP and Congress start meddling with judicial independence, we might be inching toward uncharted—and frankly alarming—territory. Also, Trump’s all-caps tirade is peak Truth Social drama, isn’t it? It reads less like a statesman’s critique and more like a celebrity meltdown.
