Karlyn Pickens, a standout pitcher for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers, has made history by throwing the fastest pitch ever recorded in collegiate softball. The record-breaking moment occurred during Tennessee's game against Arkansas, where Pickens unleashed a blistering 78.2 mph pitch in the sixth inning.

Previously, Pickens had reached a top speed of 77 mph, tying her with former Tennessee pitcher Monica Abbott, who set the mark during a 2012 National Pro Fastpitch game. Impressively, Pickens had already thrown two pitches at 77 mph earlier this season, but Monday's pitch shattered expectations.

Pickens shared her excitement after Tennessee's narrow 3-2 victory against the Lady Razorbacks, calling the achievement "a surreal moment."
