Chrissy Metz, known for her heartfelt role on "This Is Us," says her recent move from Los Angeles to Nashville was nothing short of divine intervention. After two decades under Hollywood’s bright lights, the actress credits God for nudging her toward a new chapter that’s all about music, community, and, let’s be real, shorter commutes.
Metz shared that the spark for her music journey came in the most unexpected place—a conversation with Kelly Clarkson’s doctor. He told her, "God literally told me to ask you about music." That’s Hollywood for you: you go in for a checkup and come out with a songwriting career. Metz, whose first love has always been music, jumped at the chance to collaborate with Nashville’s celebrated songwriters, saying it felt like a blessing she couldn’t turn down.
The Florida native admits the South suits her, especially after spending eight months there with family during the pandemic. Nashville, she explains, feels like home—cozy, connected, and loaded with live music and great food, all just minutes away. She still has roots in L.A., but after years of shuttling between coasts, she’s happy to be settled in Music City.
One big perk? The traffic—or lack thereof. Metz joked about her new sense of freedom, noting that an errand that used to take over two hours in L.A. now takes just seven minutes in Nashville. That’s a lot more time to chase inspiration (and maybe catch a show or three in a single night).
Alongside her music projects, Metz recently released a children’s book, "When I Talk to God I Talk About Feelings," a follow-up to her earlier title. She wrote it for kids who struggle to express themselves, hoping to help them feel seen, heard, and validated. Metz says her own childhood as the middle of five siblings left her longing for acknowledgment, so she’s making sure the next generation knows their feelings matter.
Her daily routine is anchored in prayer, which she says fuels her positivity and gratitude, whether she’s headed to a meeting, an audition, or just spotting an ambulance on the road. For Metz, prayer isn’t just about faith—it’s about putting collective good vibes into the world, whatever higher power you might believe in.
Metz hopes her latest book sparks meaningful conversations between kids and adults, fostering connection and empathy. She wants every child to know they’re loved and important, and yes, even their wildest feelings are valid. If Nashville’s giving her a better quality of life, she’s determined to pay it forward—one song, one story, and one prayer at a time.

I have to say, only in L.A. do you go in for a checkup and come out with a record deal. Chrissy Metz skipping out on traffic for songwriting sessions is the kind of adulting life hack we could all use. Nashville better have plenty of biscuits ready, because she’s bringing some big-city sparkle—and apparently, a hotline to the heavens!
