Country star Thomas Rhett is recovering from a sprained ankle after falling onstage during a Nashville concert. He updated fans with humor and gratitude on social media.

Country music star Thomas Rhett is currently recovering after an unexpected fall during a Nashville concert landed him in a wheelchair. Rhett, who has a knack for keeping fans in the loop, took to social media to update his 4.9 million followers on his condition. "I've sprained my ankle a million times playing sports, but never felt it like that last night," he admitted, sounding equal parts amused and exasperated. He also thanked fans for their well wishes and joked, "Just missed a step man… welcome to 35, I guess is the new motto."

Thankfully, an x-ray showed no broken bones, just what he called a "gnarly sprain." Still, Rhett confessed that he "can't put weight" on his ankle for now. The incident happened as Rhett was joining fellow artist Forrest Frank on stage to perform their song "Nothing Else." A video he shared captured the moment: in a classic suspense-building fashion, he counted down "3… 2… 1," and then—down he went, slipping on the stairs in slow motion for all to witness.

Despite the mishap, Rhett didn’t let a bum ankle keep him down. He was soon seen hopping onto the stage, grinning through the pain to keep the energy high for the roaring crowd. His wife, Lauren Akins, was also spotted on Instagram, pushing her husband in a wheelchair—a true ride-or-die moment if there ever was one.

"Every now and then you just have to sing at a Forrest Frank concert and break your ankle in the process," Rhett quipped from his wheelchair, summing up the night with a grin. He signed off his video with, "@hiforrest told me to pull up and I left in a wheelchair." Gotta love a guy who can laugh at himself, even when he's down (literally).

Rhett and Lauren, who married in 2012 at just 22, share four daughters together. The couple’s love story and family antics often play out for fans online, adding a relatable touch to his superstar status.

This isn’t the first time Rhett has faced drama mid-concert. In 2023, he stopped a Nashville show to call for medical help for a fan in the audience, pausing the performance until medics could assist. It’s clear the country singer knows how to handle both the spotlight and a crisis—whether it’s someone else’s or his own.

Thomas Rhett’s ability to turn a literal fall into a social media event—and still crack jokes about it—just proves that even country stars can’t escape the perils of gravity or age. But let’s give credit where it’s due: Not everyone can sprain an ankle, go viral, and leave the show with their dignity (and sense of humor) intact. Nashville, watch your steps—these stages seem to be getting trickier every year.
