Comedian Tom Green leaves Hollywood for rural Ontario, embracing farm life and animals. His new adventures inspire a Prime Video series, documentary, stand-up special, and country album.

Tom Green, the comedian who made a name for himself with wild pranks and offbeat humor, has officially traded the Hollywood scene for the serenity of rural Ontario. After two decades in Los Angeles, Green returned to his Canadian roots in 2021, moving onto a sprawling 150-acre farm where his closest companions include chickens, a donkey, and a 1,500-pound mule named Fanny.

Green describes his new life as a far cry from the hustle of California’s comedy clubs and sushi joints. "I’m often in the wilderness," he says, noting that he doesn’t miss the city’s conveniences at all. "It’s nice to be living in the country at the farm." Apparently, even 200 sushi restaurants can’t compete with the peace of open fields—who knew?

His adventures are now chronicled in the Prime Video series "Tom Green Country", along with a new documentary and a stand-up special titled "Tom Green: I Got a Mule!". Not stopping there, he’s also dropped a country album, "Home to the Country," as a musical tribute to his rural renaissance.

Green, who once left audiences both baffled and amused with his outrageous MTV antics, says he wanted the documentary to "set the record straight." He admits his early shows were "pretty outrageous" and a bit of an amplified version of himself—a walk down memory lane that’s just as wild as you’d expect.

The shift to country living began during the pandemic, when Green’s comedy tours were put on hold. Armed with a camper van, he wandered the American Southwest, making videos and podcasts. But it wasn’t long before he realized his heart belonged to Canada’s wilderness, fishing poles, and all.

His new farm is close to his childhood home and, yes, even closer to his parents—who, shockingly, still talk to him despite that famous cow’s head-in-the-bed prank. Green calls moving back near family "the best decision I’ve made, I think ever, really." Apparently, forgiveness really does run deep in Canadian families.

Learning to wrangle a mule wasn’t exactly in his original skill set. "I didn’t know anything about riding horses or mules. Certainly didn’t know how to get up in the morning and go out and take care of a giant 1,500-pound animal," he admits. Now, he saddles up Fanny each morning and rides out into the wilderness, relishing a bond that’s become "an extremely beautiful experience."

While Green grew up in Ottawa, true farm life is new to him. He recalls fishing and spending time in nature as a kid, but the daily rhythm of tending animals and working the land is a fresh chapter.

Gone are the frantic days of Hollywood. Now, his mornings are spent feeding chickens, riding his mule, and puttering around his 1857 farmhouse with his loyal dog Charley. Sometimes, you’ll find him on an ATV with fiancée Amanda Nelson, a world away from his brief marriage to Drew Barrymore in the early 2000s.

Green says the switch to country living has brought him peace and happiness. "You’re always trying to figure out what you’re doing next, and you can get stressed out. It’s nice to live in a simpler, calmer environment and just be in the presence of these animals."

He still takes the stage for comedy tours but is always eager to return home, where his animals are waiting. For anyone dreaming of ditching city life, Green has some advice: "If you do want to move to the country and leave the city, you have to genuinely like that rural lifestyle." Muddy boots and mosquitoes are part of the deal, but for him, it’s "something that’s in your blood."

Ultimately, Green says a simpler, rural lifestyle isn’t for everyone—but for him, it’s been the perfect punchline to his Hollywood story.

Tom Green went from pranking his parents to bonding with a mule named Fanny—if that’s not character development, I don’t know what is. Hollywood may have the red carpet, but apparently, the real glow-up is muddy boots and a herd of chickens. Honestly, I’ll be waiting for the day Tom’s mule gets her own Netflix special.
