Trump Admin Targets Oregon and Virginia Over Title IX and Women’s Sports Violations

In Oregon, the Department of Education is under investigation following a controversial high school sports season. Multiple incidents involving transgender athletes competing in girls' events have sparked public outrage and led to lawsuits. Craig Trainor, acting assistant secretary for the DOE's Office of Civil Rights, didn’t mince words, stating that allowing males to compete in women’s sports undermines the hard-earned achievements of female athletes while disregarding their safety and dignity. Two lawsuits—one from athletes Alexa Anderson and Reese Eckard, and another from Maddie Eischen and Sophia Carpenter—highlight the emotional toll and perceived unfairness, with some athletes even withdrawing from events due to these policies.

Meanwhile, in Virginia, the DOE concluded an investigation into five school districts, finding clear violations of Title IX due to policies on transgender-identifying students. Trainor called out these districts for prioritizing what he termed a 'radical gender ideology' over student rights, putting an end to what he described as an experiment gone wrong. These districts now face a tight 10-day window to comply voluntarily or risk action from the Department of Justice, which has already taken legal steps against similar policies in Maine and California.
