Cory Mills, R-Fla., who is championing the bill, explained its significance in an interview, stating, "This creates a reporting structure that allows what DOGE is doing with the Cabinet to be relayed to Congress, which aligns with our Article I authorities. It's really about being good stewards of taxpayer funding."
The proposed legislation seeks to formalize Trump’s prior executive order requiring Cabinet secretaries and heads of executive offices to collaborate with DOGE on optimizing government operations.
Elon Musk and DOGE Acting Administrator Amy Gleason would gain greater authority to implement cuts aimed at reducing federal waste under the bill. "Elon has developed an algorithm that operates 24/7, analyzing anomalies in government programs to identify inefficiencies and areas needing scrutiny," Mills shared. "This is all about modernizing and maximizing."
The bill is co-sponsored by members of the House DOGE Caucus, including co-chair Aaron Bean, R-Fla., alongside Reps. Byron Donalds, R-Fla.; Barry Moore, R-Ala.; and Michael Rulli, R-Ohio.
Should the legislation pass, it would protect DOGE from Democratic opposition, which has sought to block its ability to access federal data. Recently, DOGE and Musk were ordered by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan to submit a broad array of records following a lawsuit by Democratic attorneys general—a move critics argue could disrupt efficiency efforts.
With Musk’s algorithm working overtime and GOP lawmakers rallying behind DOGE, this battle over government efficiency is shaping up to be anything but boring. One can only wonder—if it passes, will DOGE truly sniff out waste like promised?
