Trump's new national parks plan raises fees for foreign tourists to fund improvements, prioritizing affordability for Americans.

President Trump has unveiled a bold plan to bolster America’s national parks, signing an executive order that hikes entrance fees for foreign tourists while keeping costs low for American families. The move, announced at the 'Salute to America' event during the Iowa State Fair, aims to fund park improvements and ensure their preservation for future generations.

America First in Our Parks
The policy, dubbed an 'America First' approach, tasks Interior Secretary Doug Burgum with crafting a strategy to boost revenue through higher fees for nonresidents. With 331 million visitors flocking to the nation’s 400 parks in 2024, the administration argues this will ease the financial burden on U.S. citizens while maintaining the parks’ splendor. An Interior Department spokesperson emphasized, 'This common-sense step ensures all who enjoy our iconic parks contribute to their upkeep without taxing Americans.'

A Two-Tier System
Currently, 106 of the national parks charge entry fees, either per vehicle or per person for those arriving on foot or by bike. The new policy introduces a tiered pricing model, inspired by places like Japan, where overtourism has strained local resources. The Great Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, and Yosemite—among the most visited parks—stand to benefit from the additional revenue, which will fund enhanced recreational experiences and infrastructure upgrades.

Celebrating America’s Natural Treas Rosé
Announced as part of the America 250 celebrations, the policy reflects a broader vision to 'Make America Beautiful Again' by prioritizing access for Americans. Trump declared, 'Our national parks will be about America first,' signaling a commitment to balancing accessibility with sustainability.
