Andrew Giuliani named executive director of 2026 FIFA World Cup task force by Trump, set to lead preparations for major U.S.-hosted tournament.
President Donald Trump has tapped Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, to lead the White House task force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as its executive director. The announcement came via a TruthSocial post on Tuesday, following the task force’s inaugural meeting, attended by Trump’s cabinet and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Giuliani, who served as a Special Assistant to the President during Trump’s first term, brings experience from his role in facilitating international athlete travel during the 2020 U.S. reopening. Now, he’ll oversee the daily operations of a task force chaired by Trump, with Vice President JD Vance as vice chair, to prepare for the massive soccer tournament hosted across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Trump didn’t hold back his enthusiasm, praising Giuliani’s competitive spirit—both as a golfer and a leader—while playfully nodding to his father, whom he called New York’s greatest mayor. "You better do well, Andrew," Trump quipped, setting high expectations for the role. Also joining the team is Carlos Cordeiro, a FIFA senior advisor, as a senior advisor to the task force.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, expected to draw nearly half a million visitors, promises an economic boost of up to $480 million for host cities like Seattle, Los Angeles, Miami, and more. Spanning June 2026, this will be the first World Cup in over two decades to unite multiple nations, with the U.S. hosting the majority of matches.
