Donald Trump claims Joe Biden's pardons for Capitol riot figures are void due to autopen signatures, raising questions about legality and sparking new political and constitutional debate.
Donald Trump is back in the headlines, this time claiming that President Joe Biden's pardons of individuals tied to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigation are "VOID." Why? According to Trump, they were signed using an autopen—a mechanical device used for automated signatures—and allegedly without Biden's knowledge.
Trump made the bold declaration on Truth Social, stating, "The 'Pardons' that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen." The former president didn't hold back, accusing Biden of being out of the loop and suggesting potential criminal activity by those who facilitated the signing.
In his post, Trump went further, directing a fiery warning to the members of the House Select Committee. He accused them of deleting evidence from their investigation and hinted that they might face scrutiny at "the highest level." Trump referred to Biden as "the Worst President in the History of our Country, Crooked Joe Biden," ensuring his characteristic flair for dramatics remained intact.
When asked aboard Air Force One on Sunday night whether executive orders or pardons signed via autopen could actually be invalidated, Trump left room for legal interpretation: "I think so. It’s not my decision. That would be up to a court." Well, that's one way to kick off a constitutional debate.
These remarks come on the heels of a report by the Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project, which alleged that autopen signatures have been heavily used during Biden's presidency. The report even showcased examples of Biden's autopen signature across various documents, raising questions about the authenticity of official White House actions.
Adding more fuel to the fire, Biden had previously pardoned high-profile figures, including General Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, members of Congress involved in the Capitol riot investigation, and police officers who testified before the committee. In his farewell statement on January 20, Biden defended his pardons, saying the recipients "served our nation with honor and distinction" and were targets of politically motivated prosecutions. But Trump's allegations now aim to flip that narrative.
As Biden's team has yet to respond to Trump's claims, the controversy over autopen signatures continues to cast its shadow. Meanwhile, the political circus rolls on, leaving us wondering: is this a legitimate concern or just another act in the ongoing Trump-Biden saga?

Only Trump could turn an office gadget into a political scandal. While the autopen is a legitimate tool used by presidents, the idea that Biden's pardons could be invalidated because of it feels like a stretch. But hey, you’ve got to hand it to Trump—he knows how to keep the drama alive. Also, the term 'Unselect Committee' might just be his sassiest nickname yet.
