Brief
Reagan National Airport to halt flights for Trump-hosted military parade on June 14, celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday with flyovers and fireworks.
Next Saturday, June 14, President Donald Trump will host a grand military parade in Washington, D.C., to honor veterans and active-duty service members while commemorating the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, Flag Day, and, coincidentally, his own birthday. This event promises to be a powerful tribute to the resilience and service that define our nation, but it’s also set to cause some significant disruptions—especially for travelers.
One of the biggest headaches will be at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), where flights are expected to grind to a halt during the parade. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will suspend operations to accommodate aircraft flyovers and a fireworks display along the parade route. If you’ve got a flight booked for the evening of June 14, better check with your airline now—delays and cancellations are almost guaranteed.
The FAA, in collaboration with the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, is finalizing plans for the flyovers, including Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) to ensure safety. These restrictions will expand the already tight airspace rules around D.C., and during the peak of the event, all arrivals and departures at DCA will be stopped. Normal operations will resume only after the celebration wraps up.
The parade itself, running from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. along Constitution Avenue NW between 15th and 23rd Streets, will feature historical U.S. Army re-enactors, period-accurate equipment, military bands, and modern displays of Army prowess. It’s not just a show of strength but a call to inspire future generations to embrace the spirit of leadership and service. However, if you’re hoping to catch the fireworks in person, you’re out of luck—DCA notes there will be no public viewing areas due to construction, and parking near the event is strongly discouraged. Add to that road closures and heavy pedestrian traffic, and you’ve got a recipe for chaos. Travelers are advised to use the D.C. Metrorail to reach the airport and brace for longer travel times.
While this event is a fitting salute to the Army’s legacy, it’s clear that getting around D.C. on June 14 will be anything but a parade. Plan ahead, or you might find yourself grounded—literally.

Well, folks, it looks like D.C. is rolling out the red carpet—or rather, the red, white, and blue—for a parade that’s part birthday bash, part traffic nightmare. I can’t help but wonder if the real flyover isn’t the planes but the way this event is flying over everyone’s travel plans. If Trump wanted to ground the opposition, he’s certainly grounded a few flights instead! Let’s hope the fireworks aren’t the only thing blowing up that night—here’s to no tempers flaring at the airport.
