President Trump has invited the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles to the White House for long-delayed Super Bowl celebrations, resuming tradition after COVID-19 interruptions.

President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to the Kansas City Chiefs for a visit to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LIV victory—a celebration that was initially derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chiefs clinched the title back in February 2020, defeating the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. But less than a month later, the sports world came to a screeching halt due to the pandemic, leaving their victory party in limbo.

Trump shared the news during an interview with OutKick’s Clay Travis, saying, "I look forward to having the (Philadelphia) Eagles. And, one other thing, we’re gonna have the Kansas City Chiefs after that because they missed their turn because of COVID." Talk about catching up on lost celebrations!

Interestingly, the Eagles—who defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX—are also slated to visit the White House on April 28, marking a fresh chapter in what has been a turbulent history between Trump and NFL teams. Back in 2018, the Eagles skipped their White House visit after winning the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, amid heated debates over players kneeling during the national anthem. Trump even pulled their invite at the time, citing the controversy.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt recently cleared up any confusion about the Eagles’ planned visit, stating, "We sent an invitation. They enthusiastically accepted, and you will see them here on April 28." Seems like this time, it’s all systems go for a harmonious celebration.

It’s almost poetic how the pandemic put a halt to what should’ve been a moment of triumph for the Chiefs. Trump’s move to bring them back into the spotlight feels like an overdue high-five. As for the Eagles—well, let’s hope this visit doesn’t resurrect old feuds. Fingers crossed for a drama-free day at the White House!
