President Trump will hold a rally in Macomb County, Michigan, celebrating his first 100 days of his second term, highlighting his unique presidential history and Michigan's political significance.

President Donald Trump is gearing up for a rally in Michigan next Tuesday, celebrating his first 100 days back in the White House. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared the news, saying Trump is "excited to return to the great state of Michigan" for the milestone event in Macomb County. Safe to say, the party hats are likely already on order.

Trump, who took the oath of office for his second term on January 20, holds a rare spot in American history as only the second president, after Grover Cleveland, to snag two non-consecutive terms. You don’t get that kind of déjà vu in the Oval Office every day.

Michigan has played host to some rollercoaster moments in Trump’s political career. He clinched the state in both 2016 and 2024, although he faced a setback there in 2020. That 2016 victory was particularly historic, ending a Republican dry spell in Michigan presidential contests dating back to 1988. Talk about breaking the ice.

Republican leadership in the state is rolling out the red carpet. Rep. Lisa McClain, chair of the House GOP conference, declared, "There is no better place to celebrate Day 100 than Macomb County." Fellow Michigan Republican Rep. John James added that Macomb County is "honored" to host Trump, calling this era "America’s New Golden Age," and echoing the familiar rallying cry to "Make Michigan Great Again." James, notably, just announced his own run for governor this month. Apparently, campaign season in Michigan never really goes out of style.

It’s worth noting that Trump’s relationship with Michigan’s Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer has seen its share of ups and downs. Just last year, after a wave of criticism, Trump pivoted to call her a "very good person." Political amnesia, or just another Tuesday?

If Trump keeps returning to Michigan, they might as well give him a loyalty card—buy two rallies, get the third free. Also, the only thing more unpredictable than Michigan’s weather is the state’s political swings. Can someone get these politicians a frequent flyer pass for campaign season?
