Donald Trump vows to rescue NASA astronauts stranded on the ISS after Starliner issues, promising action as SpaceX prepares a mission. Trump criticizes Biden for earlier inaction.

President Donald Trump made a bold vow on Thursday to bring home two NASA astronauts who have been stranded in space for an extended eight months. Speaking from the Oval Office while signing executive orders, Trump assured the astronauts that rescue efforts were underway and even threw in a bit of his signature showmanship.

"Elon [Musk] is right now preparing a ship to go up and get them," Trump told Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy. Adding a personal touch, he said, "We love you, and we're coming up to get you, and you shouldn't have been up there so long."

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams found themselves stuck at the International Space Station after their planned return vehicle, Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, experienced technical issues. Originally scheduled for an eight-day mission commencing June 5, 2024, the duo’s stay in orbit turned into a prolonged and unexpected adventure.

Due to safety concerns, NASA deemed the Starliner unfit to transport the astronauts back to Earth. The spacecraft returned unmanned, leaving the crew to count the additional days in zero gravity.

Interestingly, it was revealed that former President Joe Biden had declined an offer of assistance from SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to resolve the situation. Trump took the opportunity to criticize his predecessor, accusing Biden of leaving the astronauts "alone in space" out of embarrassment. "The most incompetent president in our history has allowed that to happen to you, but this president won't let that happen," Trump declared.

NASA has now scheduled SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft to launch on Wednesday. The mission will involve retrieving Wilmore and Williams after a brief handover period at the station. Trump, never one to miss a chance for theatrics, couldn't resist joking about joining the mission himself. "Should I go on that journey just to be on the ship when we stop?" he asked Doocy, who enthusiastically replied, "If that's an option, yes."

Trump laughed it off, saying, "I should do it. That's terrible. I thought he liked me." Another reporter chimed in, suggesting the president should stay on Earth. Ever quick with a quip, Trump responded, "She likes me better."

While the rescue operation is now in motion, one thing is clear: Trump’s flair for the dramatic remains securely grounded – even if the astronauts aren’t.

Trump's knack for blending grandiosity with humor was on full display here. The situation is serious—two astronauts stuck in space for months—but leave it to him to crack jokes about tagging along on the rescue mission. Let’s give credit where it’s due, though; his remarks about taking action contrast sharply with Biden’s alleged inaction. It’s a classic Trump moment: equal parts entertaining and headline-grabbing.
