President Trump prepares for a major Congress address, tackles Ukraine tensions, introduces tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, and pushes an aggressive domestic agenda.

President Donald Trump is gearing up for a pivotal week in office as he prepares to deliver his first joint session of Congress address since reclaiming the presidency in January. Scheduled for Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, the address will function much like a State of the Union—though it technically isn't, given that he hasn't been back in office for a full year.

These speeches are traditionally a chance for presidents to tout their administration's achievements and outline future goals, and Trump's government has been operating at a breakneck pace to realign with his "Make America Great Again" agenda. Elon Musk, now the chair of the Department of Government Efficiency (yes, you read that right), has been leading the charge to eliminate federal overspending and fraud. Meanwhile, border security remains a top priority. Since January, Trump has signed a whopping 76 executive orders alongside a flurry of other actions. Love him or hate him, the man keeps the pen busy.

His week also began with fireworks, thanks to a tense White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump, alongside Vice President JD Vance, didn't mince words during the fiery exchange, which ended abruptly when Trump asked Zelenskyy to leave. Trump accused Zelenskyy of "gambling with World War III" and being disrespectful to the United States. Adding fuel to the fire, Vance called out Zelenskyy for failing to express gratitude to the U.S. and for campaigning against Trump in Pennsylvania last fall. Ouch.

Trump later posted on social media that Zelenskyy could return to the White House "when he is ready for peace." Zelenskyy, unfazed, spent the weekend in the U.K. meeting with European leaders to discuss potential peace plans. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of U.S. involvement while also signaling that Europe was ready to take the lead, even mentioning "boots on the ground" to back Ukraine. Bold words that are sure to keep the geopolitical chessboard buzzing.

But Trump isn't just focused on Ukraine. This week, he's also set to implement tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. The tariffs—25% on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% on goods from China—were authorized last month under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Both Canada and Mexico had managed to negotiate a temporary pause by agreeing to bolster border security, but the reprieve ends this week. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick hinted that the specifics are still "fluid," leaving room for some last-minute drama.

As Trump prepares for Tuesday's address, one thing is clear: whether you admire his determination or find it exhausting, this administration is not about slowing down.

Trump’s pace is nothing short of relentless, and you have to wonder if anyone in his administration is getting a full night’s sleep these days. But let’s talk about that Elon Musk detail for a second—government efficiency czar? It’s like someone combined a Silicon Valley fever dream with a political soap opera. Intriguing, to say the least.
