UFC legend Randy Couture airlifted to burn center after fiery crash during NHRA racing prep. Injuries not life-threatening.
Former UFC champion Randy Couture was airlifted to a Kansas City burn center on Tuesday after a terrifying crash during preparations for his National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) racing debut. The MMA icon suffered first and second-degree burns, trauma injuries, and smoke inhalation when his vehicle erupted in flames on the racetrack. While the cause of the wreck remains unclear, the damage to Couture’s car was extensive, leaving him under medical care as of Wednesday. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Couture, a legend in the octagon with a 19-11 MMA record and titles in both light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, retired from fighting in 2011. His pivot to racing was meant to fuel the competitive fire that defined his career. Just last month, he shared his enthusiasm on the Bubba The Love Sponge Show, saying, "This is a new way to tickle that competitive spirit. I’ll bring all the things I developed as a wrestler and martial artist into this realm."
Yet, the racetrack proved far less forgiving than the cage. Couture himself admitted the challenge, noting, "Sitting in the stands, it looks easy... but there is so much more involved." As he recovers, the sports world holds its breath, hoping this warrior can once again defy the odds.
