Ray & Mascari recalls 4-Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes in 11 states over salmonella concerns. No illnesses reported yet. Customers urged to discard affected products immediately.

Heads up, tomato lovers: An Indianapolis-based company, Ray & Mascari Inc., has announced a recall of its "4-Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes" over fears that they could be contaminated with salmonella. The tomatoes, packaged in those familiar clamshell containers, were distributed by Gordon Food Service Stores across 11 states—including Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

The recall comes after Hanshaw & Capling Farms in Immokalee, Florida, alerted Ray & Mascari Inc. about a potential salmonella issue at their facility. Ray & Mascari repacked the tomatoes into the 4-count containers, and now, just to be safe, they’re pulling the whole lot. If you spot a plastic clamshell labeled "VINE RIPE TOMATOES" with "Packed by Ray & Mascari Inc., Indianapolis, IN 46204," and a master case marked Lot# RM250424 15250B or Lot# RM250427 15250B, that’s the batch in question.

While no illnesses have been reported so far (phew), salmonella is no joke—especially for young kids, seniors, or anyone with a weakened immune system. The usual symptoms include fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, salmonella can get into your bloodstream and lead to even more serious issues like arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis. So, if your salad plans included these tomatoes, maybe just go with croutons tonight.

Customers who bought the affected tomatoes are being told to discard them immediately and absolutely, positively do not consume. If you have any questions or, heaven forbid, feel unwell after eating them, you should contact Ray & Mascari Inc. during their business hours.

Honestly, it’s hard not to notice how recalls seem to be sprouting up everywhere lately. At this rate, checking your fridge is starting to feel like a game of food roulette. Stay sharp, folks!
