Construction begins in Konotopie, Poland, on what will be the world’s tallest religious statue—a 180-foot Virgin Mary atop a crown-shaped pedestal, set to attract global attention.
In a small Polish town called Konotopie, construction has officially begun on what could soon be proclaimed as the tallest religious statue in the world—a towering depiction of the Virgin Mary. Standing at an impressive 180 feet when completed, this monumental project has already caught global attention.
The Virgin Mary statue itself will measure 133.2 feet, but here's the twist—it will rest atop a 50-foot-high pedestal shaped like a crown. That’s right, a crown doubling as an observation deck and a pilgrimage point. Talk about combining faith and function.
The project is being spearheaded by Wirtalny Toruń, a Polish tourism group, which highlights the sentimental significance of the location. According to a press release, the statue will stand near the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Konotopie, a site already brimming with religious history and frequented by pilgrims from across the Dobrzyń Land region.
“Mary is the model of perfect love and obedience to Christ," states catholicscomehome.org, underscoring the Virgin Mary's central role in Christian belief and her universal appeal as a figure of devotion.
Once completed, this statue will eclipse other religious landmarks globally. For reference, Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer stands at nearly 100 feet, while Poland’s own Christ the King statue in Swiebodzin stretches to 108 feet. If this Mary statue doesn’t make your jaw drop, compare it to the U.S. Statue of Liberty, which measures 151 feet and takes its inspiration from the Roman goddess Libertas.
The entire construction process is expected to take about 18 months. While that might seem like a long time, creating something of this scale and significance isn’t exactly a weekend DIY project. Wirtalny Toruń has yet to reveal the full cost or additional technical details, but the buzz is already palpable.
More than just a statue, this Virgin Mary monument is being positioned as a cultural and spiritual beacon for the region, blending faith, art, and history in a truly colossal way.

Well, move over Christ the Redeemer—this Virgin Mary statue is coming for the title of 'World’s Tallest Religious Monument.' I can’t help but marvel at the ambition here. A crown that doubles as an observation deck? That’s some next-level symbolism. But let’s not overlook the fact that this tiny Polish town will soon host a statue rivaling New York’s Statue of Liberty. Poland is clearly aiming for a spiritual and architectural mic drop!
