Vivek Ramaswamy, backed by Trump, unveils a plan to transform Ohio into the 'Platinum Belt,' focusing on education reform, energy, and tech-driven economic revival.
Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, now endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has unveiled an ambitious plan to reshape the state’s reputation from being part of the 'Rust Belt' to becoming what he calls the 'Platinum Belt.' His vision is rooted in modernizing education, capitalizing on energy resources, and rekindling the American Dream.
Ramaswamy, a former 2024 presidential candidate, shared his big-picture goals during an appearance on 'Sunday Morning Futures' with Maria Bartiromo. "People talk about the Rust Belt. I don't want to talk about the Rust Belt. I want to lead us to the platinum belt," he said. His plan? To make the Ohio River Valley the next Silicon Valley in key sectors like semiconductors, nuclear energy, and even artificial intelligence over the next decade. Clearly, this guy doesn’t do small dreams.
Trump recently gave Ramaswamy a high-profile boost by endorsing him for the 2026 Ohio gubernatorial race alongside Rep. Byron Donalds for Florida’s governorship. Both states’ current Republican governors, Mike DeWine in Ohio and Ron DeSantis in Florida, will term out after next year.
Last month, Ramaswamy officially kicked off his campaign with a rally in his hometown of Cincinnati. The 39-year-old entrepreneur has also secured support from Elon Musk, who previously worked with him on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project before Ramaswamy’s exit ahead of Trump's inauguration.
As governor, Ramaswamy’s agenda includes tapping into Ohio’s natural resources with an unapologetic 'drill baby drill' approach to meet the demands of AI-driven industries. In education, he plans to implement merit-based pay for teachers, expand school choice programs, and set a new national standard for student achievement in core areas like reading, writing, and math. He wants Ohio to be not just a great state, but the best state in the nation for raising families and achieving the American Dream.
"I want to turn our state into a kind of special economic region at the heart of the country, free of red tape, free of bureaucracy," Ramaswamy said. "The state where the American dream is actually the birthright for our children." Bold words, but if the vision delivers, Ohio may just shine brighter than ever.

Vivek Ramaswamy is clearly aiming for the stars here, and you’ve got to give him credit for thinking bigger than most. Transforming Ohio into the next Silicon Valley? It’s ambitious, sure, but also a little gutsy. Let’s see if the Buckeye State is ready to go platinum or if this vision ends up being a little too shiny to handle.
