Brief

WNBA star Natasha Cloud defends her stance on U.S. prioritizing profit over people, addressing critics and advocating for systemic change and social justice through her outspoken activism.

WNBA champion Natasha Cloud is making waves off the court, doubling down on comments suggesting the United States prioritizes profit and money over its people. The Connecticut Sun guard took to social media to defend her stance after facing pushback for remarks made in an interview with The Associated Press.

"Thing is I’m not soft, & words don’t hurt me lol are we 5? It still remains people over profit," she posted on X (formerly Twitter). She encouraged critics to do a quick Google search of overseas media coverage on U.S. issues, adding, "Then come back to me and tell me the whole world crazy."

Cloud has been outspoken on a range of social issues, previously criticizing the dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs by the Trump administration and corporations. She argued that these actions highlight systemic inequalities, stating, "The systems of power are working as they always were intended to work... And it’s time to break down a system that has only been about White men."

She also pointed out what she sees as a troubling trend in the U.S., saying, "Too often this country has put the human aspect aside, and put profit and money over people." While acknowledging the business realities, Cloud emphasized the need to prioritize humanity over financial gain. Honestly, her words pack as much punch as her defense on the court.

Cloud's social media presence is no stranger to controversy. She has called out the high cost of living in America and has sparred online with former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom over criticisms of the country, adding to her reputation as a fearless advocate for change.

Love her or hate her, Natasha Cloud isn’t backing down from using her platform to challenge the status quo. If anything, she’s just getting started.

Editor's Comments

Natasha Cloud is not just playing the game; she’s rewriting the rules. Her unapologetic approach to calling out systemic flaws is refreshing, but it’s also bound to ruffle feathers. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the irony—an athlete in a profit-driven sports industry highlighting the very issue that fuels it. Bold move, Natasha!
