Johnny Damon, former MLB star, discusses his unwavering support for Donald Trump, addresses criticism, and shares his political views on immigration, trade, and global issues.

Johnny Damon, a two-time World Series champion known for his time with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, has made it clear he’s not losing sleep over criticism for his support of former President Donald Trump. Damon opened up about his stance during an appearance on OutKick’s "The Ricky Cobb Show," reflecting on his relationship with Trump, which started before the business mogul entered the political arena.

When asked about potential backlash from fans, Damon dismissed the concern, saying, "I’m not too concerned about it because I know what’s right." He went on to criticize illegal immigration and advocate for fair trade policies, adding, "That’s why the tariffs are coming." Damon didn’t hold back on global issues either, questioning U.S. financial aid to Ukraine and praising Trump’s efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine, despite ongoing conflicts.

The former MLB star emphasized that his political views are driven by his desire to create a better world for his eight children. "I’m a 51-year-old man with eight kids. I worry about my kids’ future. I want to make sure they live in a world that’s safe," Damon said. He acknowledged having friends on both sides of the political aisle who appreciate Trump’s policies but take issue with his leadership style.

Damon has been a vocal supporter of Trump, endorsing his 2016 presidential campaign and later joining the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition in 2020. He’s in good company, with other prominent sports figures like Mariano Rivera and Urban Meyer also aligning with Trump.

While Damon admits he might "catch grief" for his political stance, his confidence in his beliefs remains unshaken. "Our country needed something like that," he said, referring to Trump’s leadership.

Honestly, Johnny Damon might have just summed up the modern political divide in one sentence: ‘They agree with the policies, but not the boss.’ Love or loathe Trump, it’s fascinating how his personality continues to polarize even his biggest supporters. Also, eight kids? That’s a team of its own!
