Brief

Roman Reigns prepares for WrestleMania, reflects on his WWE legacy, and openly supports Donald Trump, the WWE Hall of Famer, ahead of his headline match in Las Vegas.

Roman Reigns and Donald Trump might not seem like a likely duo, but both have etched their names into WWE history. While Reigns is prepping to headline WrestleMania once again this weekend, Trump is, believe it or not, a bonafide WWE Hall of Famer.

Trump’s wrestling résumé stretches back to hosting WrestleMania IV and V, and even squaring off with Vince McMahon in the infamous Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23—where Trump gleefully helped shave McMahon’s head bald. You have to admit, that’s a power move that even Reigns can appreciate.

Fast forward eighteen years: Reigns, whose real name is Joe Anoa'i, is set to clash with CM Punk and Seth Rollins in a triple-threat match this Saturday in Las Vegas, marking his record ninth time headlining the WWE’s marquee event. Last year, he pulled double duty, headlining both nights at WrestleMania in Philadelphia, only to lose his championship after an astonishing 1,000-day reign. Talk about a streak!

But the real twist comes outside the ring. Ahead of his big match, Reigns has publicly declared support for Trump—even though he’s a registered Democrat in Florida. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Reigns said, "I support our president. Trump is one of those guys where he’s got a vast history and a huge background. He’s been in entertainment. He’s been in big business, politics. At this point, I’m supporting a bright future for our country. Positive and competent leadership. For us to be what we’re supposed to be, to be a world leader and carry that respect and do what a world power like us should be doing."

Still, Reigns wasn’t handing out free passes. He called Trump out for his penchant for picking fights, saying, "He needs that adversary. He needs that opposition to bounce off of. He needs that competitive motivation or something." Even in politics—or the squared circle—every hero needs a villain, apparently.

Only in America can you headline WrestleMania and endorse a former president in the same breath. If Trump and Reigns ever tag-teamed, I bet even the steel chairs would get nervous! But seriously, it’s a reminder that in the world of pro wrestling—and politics—there’s always room for a dramatic plot twist.
